Fred Krupp is president of Environmental Defense Fund, a national nonprofit organization that links science, economics, law and innovative private-sector partnerships to create breakthrough solutions to the most serious environmental problems.
Krupp has been an influential leader in developing market-based solutions for our planet, such as the acid rain reduction plan in the 1990 Clean Air Act and the U.S. proposal for the global climate treaty. He played a pivotal role in the $45 billion buyout of Texas utility TXU in 2007, winning major environmental safeguards. He has led Environmental Defense Fund in a series of corporate partnerships with DuPont, FedEx, McDonald’s and others and helped launch the U.S. Climate Action Partnership.
Krupp is a graduate of Yale with a law degree from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining Environmental Defense Fund, he spent several years in private law practice in New Haven and helped found the Connecticut Fund for the Environment, a leading state environmental group. He lives in Connecticut with his family.
Miriam Horn, now on staff at Environmental Defense Fund, has written for numerous newspapers and magazines, including Vanity Fair, The New York Times and The New Republic. She was also a senior editor at U.S. News and World Report, where she was a finalist for a National Magazine Award. The author of Rebels in White Gloves; Coming of Age with Hillary’s Class – Wellesley ‘69 (Times Books, 1999), Horn lives in New York City with her husband and daughter. She is a graduate of Harvard University, and studied environmental science at Columbia University.
